3RD PLACE

CAYMIN HANNAN
"Bowl Of Fire"

Hilltop near Ram's Field Pass neighborhood, 06/07/2020, The endlessly tragic bighorn fire engulfs upper Pusch Ridge from upper Alamo canyon, to the northern flanks of Table Mountain. On the left edge of the frame stand Leviathan and Wilderness Domes. On the right edge of the frame, the wolf's teeth dominate the landscape. And through the smokey haze in the middle, one can barely spot Pima Saddle and Mt Kimball. I've never simultaneously felt such excitement at the photographs I was capturing, and so much pain as a result of their content. While fire won't change the rock formations, these areas are among my favorite sights and favorite areas to hike in the Catalinas. The Bighorn Fire will be an event not soon forgotten by the community of Oro Valley, or the Tucson area as a whole.

"Bobcat!"

When this beautiful bobcat strolled out of the woods onto the path in front of me, he didn't seem to have a care in the world. He walked along the edge of the woods, drank from a puddle, stretched, and sharpened his claws on this tree. Photographed October 16, 2020, at Wildlife Ridge Park, Oro Valley.

"Golden Paper Wasp"

Oro Valley neighborhood, near our common pool area, July 25, 2020, male Polistes aurifer feeding on extra floral nectar of Red Bird of Paradise by Joan Fox, on this day clouds of an impending thunderstorm saturated my neighborhood with beautiful light and made a fiery bokeh-bouquet of the background flowers.

"Pusch On, Pusch Up"

Near summit of Pusch Peak (accessed via Linda Vista Trailhead) 02/28/2020.  The sunset's last light makes the jagged rock formations below Pusch Peak glow like embers. Another milestone shot that feels as though it was taken in another lifetime. I remember thinking about the looming pandemic on my way up the peak on this evening. The reality and the totality of what was to come was sinking in, and yet couldn't possibly be imagined. As I found my composition that I'd been wanting to shoot for the last year, the ills of the world subsided and my mind was acutely focused on the task at hand.
